Moskva, or her official designation as Project 66, was one of many drafted heavy cruiser designs after World War II in order to boost Russian naval strength, which greatly diminished after the war. Being designed to counter the heaviest US Navy cruiser at that time, she boasted impressive weaponry as well as a considerable amount of armor.
Before being drafted into her country’s program, the girl was named Yevka Stepanov, but settled down with Moskva, mostly because it’s shorter. Her smugness, her noticeable appearance and her great defensive abilities made her the perfect candidate to represent this mighty, yet impressive warship.
